Albert J. “Bud” Schiff, CLU®, CAP® Awarded 2011 Huebner Gold Medal

Named for the founder of The American College, Dr. Solomon S. Huebner, the Huebner Gold Medal recognizes distinguished service to education and professionalism in financial services. This year’s Gold Medal was awarded to The American College Trustee, Albert J. “Bud” Schiff, CLU®, CAP®.

“Bud has been an advocate for continuing education and an outstanding industry leader for many years. As a member of our Board of Trustees and the Chair of our Foundation Board of Directors, he has helped us take enormous strides as an evolving institution while staying true to our core values,” Larry Barton, PhD, CAP®, President and CEO of The American College, notes. “This award is a symbol of the high regard in which Bud is held.”

Bud is currently the Chief Consulting Officer of New York Life Executive Benefits LLC (NYLEX Benefits). He previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of NYLEX Benefits, the Senior Executive Vice President of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York (MONY) and as a member of MONY’s Board of Trustees.

He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designation from The American College in 1968 and his Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) designation in 2011. In 2010, he was nominated by his colleagues to become the sixth member inducted into The American College’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Over the course of his career, he has served in numerous insurance industry leadership roles, including:

  • President of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU).
  • Chairman of the International Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Top of the Table.
  • Member of the LIFE Foundation Board of Directors.

Bud has also served as a Captain in the United States Navy Reserve and is an avid yachtsman. He and his wife Jayne reside in Greenwich, CT, and have two grown children and six grandchildren.

The College is proud to announce that Mickey Rosenzweig, CLU,® ChFC® is the new President of the Alumni Association. We are very excited about the perspective and experience that Mickey will bring to the position and to our Alumni.

Mickey is Founder, President, and CEO of Rosenzweig Financial Services (RFS). Founded in 1979, RFS has been a leading financial practice for over three decades.

Mickey has served as President of the Estate Planning Council of New York City, New York City Association of Financial Service Advisors (NYCAIFA), New York City Society of Financial Service Professionals (NYCSFSP). He also served on the Board of Million Dollar Round Table’s (MDRT’s) Top of the Table (TOT), the Association for Advanced Life Underwriters (AALU), and on the National Board of the Life Institute for Education (LIFE). Mickey continues to serve on the Board of Trustees of The American College (for 5 years), he also was appointed to the College’s Foundation Board.

Mickey is an adventurer and an avid sports fan. He enjoys mountain climbing, scuba diving, playing basketball, golf, running marathons, and watching the Knicks and Giants. Mickey has been happily married to his wife, Barbara for 33 years, has two grown children, one granddaughter, and lives in North Hills, NY, and Delray Beach, FL.

Also, The American College Alumni Association is now under the direction of Marilyn Chandler, ChFC®.

Marilyn has been with The College since 2008 and has ably served our Graduate School, working on multiple projects for Dean Glenn Boseman, DBA, CLF®, CLU®. She served in the U.S. Army from 1980-1983, and earned her BS in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State College in 2002.

In 2011, she earned her ChFC®, and will complete her MSFS from The American College this September.

Marilyn has not only proven herself very capable in her interaction with our students and graduates, but is also superb at project and event management. She also speaks French and Spanish and reads Russian! Marilyn will also lead The College’s President’s Circle efforts, increasing alumni engagement.

Alumni Travel & Learn Cruise Departs for
the British Isles

May 13-24, 2013

Join the American College for this unforgettable 11-night cruise of the British Isles aboard the luxurious Celebrity Infinity. This cruise is a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the historic sources of so much of what makes up American heritage.

Traveling round-trip from the port at Harwich, England (near London), at the start of the cruise, you'll cross the English Channel to Le Havre, France. From Le Havre, you’ll travel southwest and enjoy a day trip in Paris.

The Infinity then proceeds to two scenic ports of call: Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and Cork, Ireland. While in Ireland, the Infinity will make stops in three beautiful and historic ports of call: Dublin, Liverpool, and Belfast, then continues on to Glasgow. Rich in history and lore, these stops are from where so many of our forbearers began their journeys to America.

The 2013 Travel-Learn Cruise concludes with a visit to the legendary Loch Ness, near the northern tip of the United Kingdom.
