Level Up ChSNC

Financial Advisor, ChSNC®

Level Up.

At its most essential, financial services is about helping people. And few potential clients are in more need of financial assistance than are people with special needs and the family members who are caring for them. With your skills, you can make a real difference in these people's lives—especially if you earn the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® (ChSNC®) designation. Offered through The American College of Financial Services, the ChSNC® will provide you with the specialized expertise you need to help people with special needs and their families overcome financial challenges, navigate complex benefit programs, and find the peace-of-mind they deserve. Lift up others and add more meaning to your career.

What Will the ChSNC® Teach You?

The ChSNC® is much more than a selection of financial strategies. When you earn the ChSNC®, you’ll elevate your interpersonal skills and gain the ability to not only address but to truly understand the challenges and responsibilities faced by those caring for a loved one with special needs. Through this understanding, you’ll be able to meet the unique needs of every family you help by designing tailored financial plans backed by the comprehensive knowledge the ChSNC® provides. Topics in the three-course program include disability law, life insurance, healthcare issues, special needs trusts, the ABLE Act, government benefits, Social Security, Medicaid complexities, special education, estate planning, retirement planning, tax deductions, and more.

“Parents who have a child with special needs want a qualified and trustworthy advisor. Having the ChSNC® behind your name signals to them ‘this is a good person who will actually help me.'"

Phillip Fiore comes from a family of people who’ve devoted their lives and careers to helping others. His mother is an occupational therapist, his sister is a nurse, and his brother is in medicine as well. While a career in finance might seem to place Phillip outside of the family calling, that’s not the case at all.

Phillip has also devoted his career to helping people. Which is why he chose to earn the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® (ChSNC®) designation from The American College of Financial Services.

Early in his financial career, Phillip knew he wanted to help families caring for a person with special needs. And he knew, to do that well, he needed the ChSNC® designation. “What really motivated me was the education behind it,” he says. “To actually bring the best advice to my clients.”

And professional guidance is exactly what Phillip delivers. Among the many clients he serves is a family in which the husband is disabled and the family’s child has autism. When their child was diagnosed, the husband and wife had no idea how they could live on one income. Phillip was able to walk them through the often byzantine process of acquiring benefits and help them assemble a financial plan that helped the family address their financial future.

Yes, it’s hard work, Phillip admits. “You have to be willing to be a little bit charitable and patient with people,” he says. “That’s how you’re gonna make it pay off.” But the payoff is worth it. “It’s ultimately fun,” he says. “Everyone loves giving back because it makes you feel good.”

His work makes the families he helps feel good too. That’s why he considers the ChSNC® so important for financial professionals who want to do more with their careers and champion people with special needs. The designation teaches a lot more than financial strategies. It teaches financial professionals to genuinely understand what families who are caring for people with special needs are going through. And that, Phillip says, has made all the difference in his ability to make a difference.
