The American College of Financial Services Implements New Learning Management System

Brightspace by D2L chosen to transform The College's online learning experience and improve student outcomes

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – February 24, 2019 – Distance learning is a virtual experience that must feel personal – a belief that is driving The American College of Financial Services’ decision to implement Brightspace by D2L as its new Learning Management System (LMS) launching April 1, 2020.

As a student’s lifelong learning partner, The College understands the vital role that technology plays in enhancing the experience and improving outcomes. This is especially true for students who need access to course content anytime, anywhere, and on multiple devices.

As the standard of excellence in financial services education for 93 years, The College recognizes these needs, and believes Brightspace is the platform that will take our best-in-class educational offerings to the next level.

“Our students are not in this alone,” says George Nichols III, President and CEO of The American College of Financial Services. “We are their lifelong learning partner, and while I am excited about Brightspace’s features, I am even more energized about the outcomes it can deliver. Greater student confidence will build clarity, increase competence, and, we believe, ultimately improve completion. And that’s what our students need.”

Brightspace is a mobile-first learning platform that focuses on usability and accessibility, providing a consistent experience across devices and delivering a clear learning path through an easy-to-identify programmatic timeline. Students will also have access to progress tracking, a feature that will help keep them on task and on time.

Beyond usability, Brightspace will transform how students think about e-learning classroom communication. The platform will put students in charge of customizing the alerts they receive, from quiz due dates to discussion board notifications and faculty announcements, as well as offer the ability to communicate directly to a faculty member or instructor.

The initial course migration is just the first step in leveraging the platform’s full power. Brightspace’s competitive edge is in the possibilities it will present in course presentation and delivery.

“Brightspace is a 21st-century platform for 21st-century learning,” says L. Chad Patrizi, PhD, The College’s Executive Vice President and Provost. “Adult learners do not take a formulaic approach to retaining knowledge, and Brightspace opens so many avenues to develop and deliver course content in new and creative ways.”

Student success is the driving force behind overhauling The College’s most significant enterprise system for teaching and learning. Thanks to Brightspace’s aesthetically pleasing design and robust back-end learner data engine driving student engagement, The College is well positioned to enrich its delivery of applied education and knowledge that benefits society.

Course migration will start April 1. You can find the entire move schedule and answers to frequently asked questions here.
