Mariel Walker

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Mariel and her family moved to the United States at age 7. Not knowing English challenged her to put her social skills to adapt to a new country. After growing up in Kansas City, she attended Kansas State University where she attained a degree in Human Nutrition and studied Biology and Gerontology.

Mariel started her career as an insurance producer and spent five years specializing in individual and Medicare products. She managed a book of business with over 500 policies across all products. Then she spent 2 ½ years as an internal recruiter for a Fortune 500 financial firm and onboarded 22 new recruits to the business in that time.

In her current role as Sales Director for UnitedHealthcare, she is now accountable for driving Medicare portfolio sales including Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage, and Prescription Drug Plans in the market. Mariel meets the challenge of effectively managing sales-related responsibilities through managing the business growth and member retention programs. Mariel’s passion for her work in the Medicare industry is driven by her “member first” mentality and the drive to help agents build successful businesses. 

Her passion for investing in and advancing women in the insurance/finance industry has led her to serve on the board of the Women in Insurance and Finance Services Kansas City chapter as the membership chair. During her free time Mariel also enjoys spending time with her husband Jake and her son JJ. When she’s not traveling to a beach destination you can find her working out at her Pure Barre studio or golfing with the women in her Driving Pursuits league.
