Allen McLellan, LUTCF, CLU®, ChFC®, CASL®, RICP®, is Adjunct Professor of Insurance at The American College of Financial Services. Since he joined The College faculty in 2009, Professor McLellan co-authored Techniques for Exploring Personal Markets and Foundations of Investment Planning. He is the author of Foundations of Financial Planning: An Overview; Foundations of Financial Planning: The Process; and Health and Long-Term Care Financing for Seniors. He has written several articles for Advisor Today, the publication of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He also serves on the Advisory Board of The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs.

Professor McLellan is a 1971 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and holds a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. During his military career, he was a navigator in several aircraft, taught mathematics at the Air Force Academy, and completed Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, the Academic Instructor School, and the Air War College in residence. In 1984, he received the Secretary of the Air Force Leadership Award as the top graduate in his Air Command and Staff College class of 486 students. After more than 21 years as an Air Force officer, he entered the financial services profession as an insurance and investments field representative.

As a Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Professor McLellan produced comprehensive financial plans for his clients with emphasis on retirement and risk management. In addition, he is a Chartered Advisor for Senior Living® (CASL®) and formerly advised senior clients on a variety of issues, such as income distribution, health, housing, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, and end-of-life challenges. Professor McLellan also holds the Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) designation and teaches all courses within its curriculum. He is a past president of the Good Morning Montgomery (AL) Kiwanis Club, past president of the Montgomery (AL) Retired Officers Association, and past president of the South Central Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. In 1999, the Montgomery (AL) Association of Life Underwriters named him the “Underwriter of the Year.” He also served for three years on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery (AL) Estate Planning Council.
