About
Ray brings a diverse work experience background to his teaching style, having been associated with the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse, Cooper), The IBM Corporation and his own IT consultancy serving small to medium sized for-profit entities in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Ray's insurance and financial services related experience was a 35-year career as a State Farm Agent in Hubbard, Ohio, retiring in January 2023.
He's previously served as an Adjunct Instructor in Accounting, Finance and IT with Robert Morris University, Youngstown State University and Hiram College. Ray realized, while leading his first night school Cost Accounting course at YSU in 1978, that becoming an effective instructor not only meant a mastery of the subject, but also keeping students engaged and after a long workday, awake and entertained. His somewhat unique teaching style reflects all four objectives.
Serving on the Adjunct Instructor with The American College of Financial Services since 2018 has provided him a path to give back to the Financial Services Industry. Ray earned his LUTCF, CLU®, ChFC®, RICP® and CPCU designations while balancing that work with building a successful State Farm Agency. Ray believes this provides him with a deeper understanding and appreciation for his students who are also sharpening their skills through additional education, while continuing to serve their clients.
Ray's two messages to each of his students who are working at both tasks is simple: "you got this and together, we'll get you through the course."
