The American College of Financial Services announced today that Sue Ellspermann, PhD, is the latest addition to The College’s board of trustees.

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – July 31, 2026 – Ellspermann comes to The College from Ivy Tech Community College — the nation’s largest statewide, singly accredited community college — where she recently retired as president. From 2012 to 2016, she served with Governor Mike Pence as Indiana’s 50th lieutenant governor; this followed her first term in political office from 2010 to 2012 as a state representative for Indiana’s 74th District.
“I am honored to join the American College of Financial Services Board of Trustees,” said Ellspermann. “Outside forces and technology are transforming America’s economy and workforce, thus making The College’s role ever more critical to ensuring all Americans are on a path to financial security supported by knowledgeable, skilled financial professionals prepared to meet this challenge.”
Ivy Tech Community College is one of several colleges in Indiana that has taken part in The College’s consumer financial education program, Know Yourself, Grow Your Wealth®. Students can enroll for free and benefit directly from on-demand, online education on foundational financial information like credit, savings, budgeting, investments, and more.
Ellspermann also has an extensive history of business experience. She previously served as the University of Southern Indiana’s founding director of the Center for Applied Research and Economic Development, as well as operated Ellspermann and Associates, Inc., focused on creative problem-solving and strategic planning consulting. Early in her career, she held positions at companies such as GM, Michelin, and Frito-Lay. She earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue and an MSIE and PhD from the University of Louisville.
“Sue is a veteran leader in both public and private sectors, and I’m thrilled to have her on The College’s board of trustees,” said George Nichols III, CAP®, president and CEO of The American College of Financial Services. “As we seek to expand our impact on society and improve the financial wellbeing of all Americans, it’s imperative that we have leadership that shares our passion for this space and believes in our mission. Sue has walked the walk with her stewardship of Ivy Tech and other institutions, and I know she will be a tremendous asset to our board.”
Ellspermann serves on the board of Indianapolis-based OneAmerica Financial. She also serves on other corporate boards, including German American Bank, Strada Education Foundation, and OFS, as well as several nonprofit boards. She and her husband, Jim Mehling, have a blended family of four daughters, three sons-in-law, and 10 grandchildren.
