Michael Finke, PhD, CFP®, and Sudipto Banerjee, PhD, talk all things retirement spending from the latest retirement research, the evolution of the “spending smile,” the risks of increased spending, and other retirement topics.
In this episode, join Michael Finke and Sudipto Banerjee from Horizons, The College’s annual event focused on all things retirement. Michael Finke, PhD, CFP®, is a professor of wealth management and Frank M. Engle Distinguished Chair in Economic Security at The American College of Financial Services. He received a doctorate in consumer economics from the Ohio State University in 1998 and in finance from the University of Missouri in 2011. He leads the O. Alfred Granum Center for Financial Security at the American College and is a research fellow at the Retirement Income Institute, and a member of the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association Academic Advisory Council. He also serves on the board of the Puerto Rico Pension Reserve Trust. He is a nationally known researcher in the areas of retirement income planning, retirement spending, life satisfaction, and cognitive aging. He is a frequent speaker at financial planning conferences and was named one of the 25 most influential people in the field of investment advising in 2020 and 2021 by Investment Advisor Magazine.
Sudipto Banerjee, PhD, is a member of the Global Retirement Strategy team at T. Rowe Price. He conducts research to advance retirement solutions in the US and abroad. His work also provides enterprise-wide thought leadership for retirement savers, plan sponsors, intermediaries and institutional investors. Banerjee’s research has been published in academic journals such as The Journal of Human Resources, The Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, by leading think tanks and also widely reported in media publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Business, Barron’s, Forbes, and U.S. News and World Report. He has also testified to the ERISA Advisory Council at the Department of Labor. In 2015, he was honored as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Aging by Next Avenue.
